U-Fhern Handmade Costume Jewellery

Costume jewellery could be summarized as one of the most accessible decorative art that shows off limitless creativity in terms of the form that it might take in contrast to luxurious fine jewellery, which is subject to the laws of the value of its components. And as Kenneth Jay Lane describes, “wearing costume jewellery is like wearing glass slippers. You can feel like you are going to the ball even if you’re not”. Even if the average woman can’t afford the real deal, all women still have the right to be adorned.

But those who can afford the real gems often show as much appreciation towards costume jewellery because it is often better designed and has more character. While ladies would never say no to a strand of Mikimoto pearls or an impressive Cartier diamond necklace, costume jewellery have just as much the ability to thrill us. And this has determined my choice to use semi-precious stones, fresh water pearls, gleaming Swarovski crystals combined with faux pearls and gold tone chains to capture the beauty of both worlds; luxury and affordable yet exclusive jewellery.

As a young girl with an everlasting love for crafts of all kinds, my mother’s jewellery collection fascinated me. While there were exquisite treasures tucked away in padded chests, I was more excited about the chunky gold Monet necklaces, vintage Chanel clip on earrings, over the top sized faux pearls from Austria and bright gemmed necklaces by Celine strewn over velvet laced drawers.

Since those wonder years, my passion for all things pretty still remains. Whilst jewellery making started off as a hobby in city bead shops, I have endeavored to expand my knowledge and skills, learning from wonderful teachers in Australia, China and Italy.

Having lived, studied and traveled to various countries, I am attracted to ideas that allow me to link my worlds. I draw inspiration from the people and culture of the places I have visited, the streets I walk along, fairytales I’ve heard and of course the beautiful ladies I have grown up amongst.

I hope to cast a spell of uniqueness and exclusiveness on each and every piece I create and hope you will join me on this journey as the dream has only just begun…
